While the world may have stopped, breast cancer continues….

A Message from the Executive Director

Hi, friends! Thank you so much for the warm welcome and support you have provided these past few weeks. I’m writing to you from my home office – a.k.a. my kitchen table – and I am grateful to have the technology to connect despite social distancing. I am so honored and excited to be serving as Komen NC Triangle to the Coast’s new executive director.

As a small non-profit, like any small business, we are experiencing the effects of our current public health crisis. It means so much to have your support and encouragement at this time.

Our staff has been busy sheltering in place, keeping the course, and tackling our work from our home offices. Breast cancer does not stop during a crisis and neither do we!

It seems now more than ever, Komen’s support of those affected by breast cancer is critical, as certain breast cancer therapies can cause immune systems to be compromised both during and after treatment ends. Not to mention, COVID-19 is putting some breast cancer patients at greater risk by devastating their incomes and weakening their health insurance coverage.

Today, we are launching our COVID-19 Action Fund to support urgent needs among our breast cancer community. Funds raised will ensure support continues for those in need through our breast care helpline, treatment assistance program, resource navigation, advocacy, and funding for lifesaving research and clinical trials. Help now.

We are making the best choices we can for our services and programs as well as employing creative techniques to deliver our mission. Our Thriving Together support group for MBC is now meeting virtually. To answer pressing questions survivors and thrivers have about breast cancer and COVID-19, we hosted a virtual education session with Dr. Lisa CareyCheck it out here!

Once we are on the other side of this curve, I look forward to connecting with you and the Komen community in person. We will indeed celebrate our strength and resilience at our rescheduled Triangle Race for the Cure on Saturday, September 12. I hope you can join us!

During this unprecedented time, thank you for continuing to forge ahead with us and for helping us stay strong. I hope you and your loved ones remain healthy and safe.

With gratitude and hope,

Krista Park Berry
