Team Story: Sophie’s Superstars
Sophie was diagnosed with triple positive‚ breast cancer last year as a healthy, young 26 year old. This spring, we are so thrilled to share that she is now cancer free. Sophie has remained incredibly strong through chemotherapy and two surgeries. She still has radiation and years of hormone therapy treatment, but she is happy to be thriving with the worst of treatment behind her.
Through her cancer journey, Sophie’s family has relied on the resources provided by organizations like Susan G. Komen. The lifesaving research funded by Komen, such as current projects like, UNC’s Dr. Lisa Carey’s research on “Optimizing HER2-targeting Using RNA and DNA-based Predictive Algorithms (improving HER2-positive breast cancer treatment)” have had a direct impact on Sophie’s treatment.
We hope that by raising money for this year’s Race for the Cure, we can continue to support this great organization in helping other patients survive and thrive after a breast cancer diagnosis.
