The Komen NCTC is pleased to award $738,000 in grant funding to the following organizations. These projects were selected, by an independent grant review panel, as those that will have the greatest impact in serving underserved, underinsured, or uninsured women in our service area. Provides angel funds to increases post-diagnostic support and assistance to survivors, focusing on quality of life issues while a breast cancer patient is undergoing treatment.
Edgecombe Breast Health Initiative

Provides clinical breast exams and baseline/screening mammograms and diagnostic screening to uninsured and underinsured women 20 years of age and older in Edgecombe County and women who are high –risk, symptomatic, and/or have a personal or family history of breast cancer.
Bridging the Gap for Breast Cancer Treatment

Debra Mascarenhas, 252-847-6550 Provides underinsured and uninsured breast cancer patients from Pitt, Wilson, and Duplin Counties financial assistance for treatment and post diagnostic needs, including but not limited to co-pays, treatment related payments, emotional/mental health services, genetic testing/counseling, rehabilitative therapy, and transportation.
First Health of the Carolinas

Provides low income and uninsured women in Lee, Moore, and Scotland County with screening mammograms and follow-up care as needed to address an existing gap in services. Transportation assistance is also available for patients traveling to and from appointments and treatment to eliminate/reduce barriers to access to care.

Provides culturally appropriate breast health education, screening, and diagnostic mammogram referrals to women ages 40 and older and a seamless continuum of care for women needing treatment. A monthly support group is also available for survivors, co-survivors, and community members.

Provides culturally appropriate breast health education, clinical breast exams, mammography referral, and patient navigation for underserved women in Chatham County. The program also provides outreach services to the migrant seasonal population.
Rex Mammography Assistance Program

Provides no-cost screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms, and breast ultrasounds to uninsured and underinsured women in Wake and surrounding counties. Also provides convenient, accessible screening mammograms on two mobile mammography units that travel throughout a 15-county core service area.

TLC- UNC: Transforming Lymphedema Care for Underserved North Carolinians

Provides lymphedema education, direct treatment services, and compression garments to uninsured and underinsured breast cancer survivors at UNC and community partners in 12 counties. Education and collaborative opportunities will also be available to certified Lymphedema therapists.
