Duke Cancer Institute Serves As Local Presenting Sponsor of the 2015 Komen Triangle Race for the Cure®
RALEIGH– Susan G. Komen North Carolina Triangle to the Coast (Komen NCTC) is proud to announce Duke Cancer Institute as the Local Presenting Sponsor for the 2015 Triangle Race for the Cure® on Saturday, June 13 at Meredith College in Raleigh. The Duke Cancer Institute is a single entity that integrates and aligns cutting-edge research and world class education with compassionate clinical care.
“We are thrilled that Duke Cancer Institute has partnered with the Komen Triangle Race for the Cure® for 17 years,” said Pam Kohl, Komen NCTC Executive Director. “Duke Cancer Institute has supported Komen NCTC as a Local Presenting Sponsor since 2008. This sponsorship makes it possible for us to continue our mission of finding the cures.”
In its 19 years, the Komen Triangle Race for the Cure® has raised awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. The event features a timed 5K run, a 5K walk, Women’s only 5K walk/run and one-mile walk. The Race culminates with the breast cancer survivor celebration honoring those who have battled this disease and remembering those we’ve lost to cancer.
Seventy-five percent of the net funds raised stay in our local communities to support education, screening, treatment and support programs for women and families in central and eastern North Carolina. The other 25 percent helps fund Komen’s national research programs.
“Our partnership with Duke Cancer Institute expands beyond the Race as Duke is home to Komen Scholars and researchers who are conducting ground breaking research,” said Kohl.
In 2014, Susan G. Komen awarded $2 million in national grants to researchers at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Since 1982, Komen has awarded 130 grants to local researchers totaling more than $31 million.
