Triangle Race for the Cure Medical Chair
As the Medical Chair of the Race and a breast cancer researcher/oncologist at Duke Cancer Institute, I want to make a greater impact in securing optimal treatment and making strides toward curing breast cancer for my patients that can only be achieved through research funding.
The year 2020 has been extremely challenging for us all. Our breast cancer patients facing the isolation of a global pandemic and breast cancer need us now more than ever. The Race for the Cure secures funds that help patient gain optimal access to breast cancer screening which saves lives, navigation services to aid in diagnosis and treat breast cancer, and patient support resources all with the goals of reducing disparities seen in rural and minority populations.
My metastatic breast cancer population is very close to my heart and I am passionate about finding new and better treatments that will extend their lives with the ultimate goal of cure. Susan G. Komen has invested more than $210 million in metastatic breast cancer research, supporting more than 500 research grants, including more than 50 clinical trials of novel breakthrough therapies.
